How do I make rice ale or fine rice ale ? it's not at all clear and makes no sense in the handbook.

I build a cellar underneath my kitchen and it's perfectly lined on all sides with solid granite rock. With no light source in the room it's still very very bright during the day. Looking at the unreliable wiki there is a mention of skylight? So.. How deep do I need to build my cellar, or how many layers of rock under my kitchen floor do I need to go before i don't get daylight creeping in? Also, whilst we are at it.. if the ambient temperature is 5 degrees or less then whats the rate of preservation i can expect in a storage vessel in a perfect cellar. Mine seems to vary somewhere between about 0.12x and 0.2x depending on conditions

Is there a way to flip the game to creative mode, or using a /wgen command or something similar to spawn in a particular type of trader? I am playing with a mod that adds a Sommelier Trader so I can sell all the booze I make (and hence give me some reward other than getting drunk in game) - but relying on the RNG gods to spawn one anywhere near my base is rather problematic.

No bugs to report, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the devs and supporters on this mod. I absolutely love it and it expands the fun and immersion in the game a hundred fold.. Your efforts are appreciated.

I have added a few mods to the game that only seem to take affect on newly generated chunks. I read in a previous thread that you can do this Is this something I could do to regenerate chunks that I have not modified any blocks in, and would that in effect be the same as exploring newly generated chunks? The mods in question are to add new kind of traders and I would like them to appear not TOO far away from home. (obviously i would take a backup first yadda yadda)

I'd like to second the comment about wolves competely destroying herbivore populations, if you don't take care of them. In any ecosystem, if the predators get too numerous, they die of starvation until the prey numbers recover. Prey numbers never seem to recover in this game. Wolves / Bears / Bowtorns etc go from nightmare menace to an inconvenience once you get Gambeson Armour. Its just a facet of the game

For me, Steel is a multiplayer group exercise. The grind is simply not worth the benefits in single player. I'm happy with my iron tools

1. Carving up corpses. Hit or miss whether the contents UI grid actually opens or not . Or you chase the corpse around trying to get to the meaty insides. 2. Placing pelts on your floor in your house. Trying to walk over them and you're stopped in your tracks until you dance around them. Why do I stub my toes on pelts? 3. Can't walk on-to, or off-of boats without swimming. Making building viable docks all but hopeless. 4. Sitting in my boat, 2 out of 3 times i can't control it until I get out of and back into the boat, and then it magically works. 5. The "try to wake up at sunrise without missing 2 hours of the day" mini game which generally involves hitting shift about 3 hours before dawn. 6. Why can we not yet place pies on shelves? (yes I know there's a mod) 7. Why do we need better firepits mod for firepits to work in a sane way? I'm all for new features etc but some of these are QOL fixes that we've been dealing with for a LONG time now.

No stones in the cold - a deliberate design decision - why?
SubtleOrc replied to SubtleOrc's topic in Discussion
I play snowball earth all the time and I feel like i find stones on the ground. I specifically looked in the game file jsons and they have restrictions on climate on when they spawn. -
I can see in the assets files (especially stoneshells.json) that loose stones and boulders will only generate with a min temp of -2 why on earth was this put in as a worldgen feature? why decide not to allow people to knap if they to start in cold climates?

because if combat is NOT important to you, then you can go on with your life, avoid combat using the existing game mechanics allowing you to turn off, and not worry yourself if the devs decide to FIX combat for those who it is important ... it costs you nothing, if you avoid combat, to have combat fixed..
-
Yes I think combat is lacking in the game, and it's an annoying aspect as combat is basically foisted on you whether you like it or not .. Not only is the combat weak but it's extremely predictable. Hit a wolf x number of times and you KNOW its just going to run away etc .. Drifters throw magic stones at you that have a 100% chance to hit. I must admit the new Bowthorns and Shivers make life a little more interesting, but as it is, yes the base mechanic of combat is weak. Half the issues are with the lengthy animations, but to me, it's the lack of variability and lack of thought put into the process makes it more of a chore than a delight. For those who want the cozy building aspect and not the combat then there are enough in game options to turn off the combat for you, but for those of us who are happy to have it incorporated into our gameplay then there's no reason for it not be improved. Also people who comment in a thread like this with "combat is not important to me, therefore it should not be improved" are all that is wrong with the world. Stop ...

yeh I was minding my own business and didn't even see what one-shotted me.. turns out it was a moose... not sure some of the design decisions being made here.

1.19 pre Stone and other resources are very hard to find
SubtleOrc replied to Arasine's topic in Discussion
i created a 1.19 latest rc as of today and found ZERO stones on the ground at all. wandered into some granite gravel and found some boulders to break into stones but nothing there otherwise. no flint .... set climate and current weather to one step cooler in the game creation tabs and theres absolutely no bushes or crops or anything that i have seen to eat yet in 10-15 minutes of wandering - only animals to hunt.. may be what they are after but man that new start is hard
