Large crucible for late game copper processing
River Oak replied to sikoninien's topic in Suggestions
This thread prompted me to look try look into copper refining in the middle ages, I ended up downloading a few papers but haven't read them yet. I did though, come across something called the "Saiger Process" as a way to extract trace amounts of silver from copper ore (chalcopyrite, not currently in game but irl can sometimes be found with native copper) and lead ore (galena which can even spawn silver ore in game). Basically, silver likes to stick to copper and especially lead, and in the 1400s, some smart cookies figured out a way to extract that silver rather than let it stay as a contaminant. What they do is melt copper and lead together and let it cool in cake moulds. The copper and lead will separate and the silver will move from the copper to the lead. The silver+lead is then reheated and oxidised and somehow doing that in a cup made from bone-ash causes the silver to drop out of the lead. ( https://hmsjournal.org/index.php/home/article/view/154 ) I think it would be cool if metallurgy was expanded on and this processes and others like it could be added. I also think it's really cool how I keep seeing and thinking of things that would be cool to add and end up going down a rabbit hole looking into them. -
Whenever there's an incident with a video game, or any product, that causes lots of drama, I just remember all that's happened over at Blizzard, and how despite all of the terrible things related to that company, two half decent expansion packs for WoW was enough to bring the player numbers back up as high as ever, like none of it ever happened. None of this actually matters. Those who like the game will play the game, those who don't wont.

Wattle Fences VS Rough Hewn Fences? When should I use which?

Horses are confirmed to be coming soon™. I'm excited at the possibility of VS becoming the premier horse girl game. So many others miss the mark in so many ways, but VS could be the one.

Eldritch just means otherworldly, which the rust/rot is.We'll see more of it as the story is developed and added to the game.

Could go even further and make them adjustable with a wrench. Which would be kinda weird tbh so maybe a sewing kit instead of a wrench. -
I do find it very strange that packed dirt and rammed earth take up the same volume as normal uncompressed dirt

Apples really do last a long time when stored in a cool and dry place. You just need to pick out the ones that go bad first to stop the rot from spreading and of course eat the softest ones first. I saw it on Tales from the Green Valley, or one of the other experimental archaeology reality TV programs made by the same people.

I've found limiting the fps to 60 can help smooth out everything, giving a better playing experience even if there's technically less total frames. Same in other games too.

If you don't have glass, you can use wattle fences as windows. They don't count towards enclosing the room though so you should still try get glass.

I'm pretty sure you don't even need troughs, you can just throw the food on the ground and they'll eat it and get preggers.

Historical bows accurate up-to and exceeding a hundred metres? Not a chance. Going off of the veritable ARROWS vs ARMOUR 3 video, Vintage Story is quite accurate.

In Mahjong Blonksy's interview with Tyron and Saraty, Saraty mentioned wanting to add a complex/in-deapth weaving mechanic to the game, tying cloth dying and weaving into how clothing and carpets are made. Very exciting stuff. Personally, I'd like to see flax processing expanded on, as well as wool, cotton and silk added to the game.

Thought about clay a bit more and realised the clay storage vessel is pretty much an amphora/pithos already, it just can't store liquid, and that made me think, "Why can't it store liquid?" and then, "Why can't the barrel store dry goods?". There'd have to be some system stop you mixing dry and wet goods, maybe similar to the residue covered pots but not permanent. Sure, letting barrels store dry goods wouldn't change much mechanically, but it would be nice to have more variety in how we decorate our homes and workshops, and considering the 119 different species of butterfly and huge variety of decorative plants, Vintage Story clearly isn't afraid of having useless things just for variety and looking nice.

Going outside of leash range is really annoying when you're actually trying to fight a mob and accidentally go to far from the encounter location while dodging and kiting.

Pithoi and amphorae would be nice to have, but if they were, I wonder how you'd encourage players to upgrade from them to wooden barrels

Coopering is a highly skilled profession that doesn't get as much acknowledgement as it deserves these days, despite being critical for society until the 20th century. I hadn't thought about it until now, but you're right, coopering is a great candidate for being removed from the crafting grid, which Tyron has said he wants to do as much as possible. Let them whinge, lmao. With how much I see people complain about changes that make the game harder, it makes me think they'd complain about current game mechanics if they were new ideas instead of established gameplay.
