  1. i would advise making those fences taller, Bears can easily get inside that pen for a free snack
  2. yes! you can throw food on the ground for any animals to eat! as long as it's something they do eat (the trough will tell you what animals it's suitable for) most if not all animals will path towards and eat food items dropped on the ground if they are hungry.
  3. personally i like malefactor for my farming needs! the extra foraging and wild crop drop rate is useful for a wide range, but getting extra mushrooms to add more veg to a meal is always useful, and a lower animal seeking range makes starting husbandry that much easier. i'm pretty sure before this coming update, all berry bushes still count as wild crops, so i found it one of the better classes for cultivating a large field of those as well.
  4. that's so cool, i had no idea!! I think i've done it on accident plenty of times though, i do remember asking myself a lot "where did that go? why is it in my hotbar?"
  5. uh, yes, i didn't imply that wasn't the case at all in my post. at the start of it i said i like this update, a lot! now in order to actually have or give yourself an over-reliance on berries, you have to do just as many steps as actually farming. it's very nice!
  6. this, this will lead you to milk success! if you use a stack of buckets, they'll push out of the stack so you don't accidentally drink it (until you get to the end of the stack, at least.)
  7. i hope this solved your problem! i think without cave farming enabled, farmland gets severe penalties if any kind of block interrupts sky access, including moisture for some reason. the corner of a roof was built on a single corner of my farm once, and that block was always at 0% moisture, despite having proper water next to it.
  8. was your fence up against or near any walls? some animals scale 2-3 block walls like it's nothin', including pigs for some reason. if they got out, you can try to keep food troughs around to lure them back.
  9. AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH BERRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see what those models look like!!
  10. i can't tell from the map, but is there any branchy leaves above it from a nearby tree, or any kind of blockage in the sky? I had similar problems when a crop's access to the sky was blocked.
  11. i haven't had a chance to play with the new berries yet but i ADORE the sounds of them. by the time you actually get rolling in a settlement, the berry harvest got old fast, and there wasn't much point in harvesting when you have plenty of dyes and a massive crate of apples already. you'd pick them for rot or the raccoons and moose would come and do it for you. compared to the other types of gameplay with the crops in this game, it was really lacking, with 3 real steps. 1. Secure space for berries that you collected with your fists. 2. wait for them to grow/flower. 3. Infinite food while it is warm with no effort. I adore this new system and really hope to see something similar with fruit trees, as past the propagation of your cuttings, i feel largely the same about having an apple orchard. once it's set just forget until you see those blooms. Nursing your plants in the beginning, only for their needs to fall off the longer you take care of them.. aaah it just makes me excited thinking about it, not even gonna lie.
  12. can confirm 100% on the animals eat off the ground part-- i've fed rotten veg and grain to my huge flocks and herds via throwing it on the ground. it counts towards portions, gens, creature weight, everything! the main advantage of using a trough is getting around the 10 minute item despawn timer.
  13. it can be annoying as hell sometimes yeah, that's a part of learning how to cook in VS! you'll end up mastering consistency so you don't have to worry about the dreaded crock with 1-3 servings. that, or just leave them as chef snacks >:) i haven't played with it yet, but there is a mod for something similar to this called eternal stew! you won't have to worry about ratios or extras too much with it by the looks of it, but i don't think it'll let you put 2 servings of porridge with currants and cranberries in, more like, prevent you from having to make that mistake in the first place :3
  14. i like this idea, i always disliked that the firepit didn't show the fuel type you were using. i'd love to see this as a mod or feature
  15. as far as i'm aware, the chiseling system is a lot more dynamic than just "rendering every single voxel", if you've used any chiseling tool mods, or checked out how it separates certain sections of a block when you'd modify it, you can see that Vintage story divides chiseled blocks into neat chunks depending on its shape. the only way for it to "render every single voxel" would be making it like, a checkered pattern of air and blocks, or something crazy like that. so complex builds that divide each block into multiple chunks- like custom roof tiles with lots of nubs and crevices, or lots of uniquely chiseled statues, yeah, you're asking your computer to process more surfaces like coolAlias said above.
  16. you entered SMUDGE MODE
  17. just want to warn you about this change coming, i know there was a bug that made them still sell gold ones, but i believe it's still intended for it to stop being an easy source.
  18. oh hell yeah this popped up on my feed yesterday! hearing them talk about plans for status effects and remedies made me SO excited, you asked some really amazing questions to get some awesome answers, thank you!
  19. they do regrow reliably honestly! there's a reason there's a mushroom marker on the waypoints thing in the map. i'd really recommend marking the spots and checking them frequently outside of winter. i plan on doing the same with those new mushrooms B)
  20. you're defo right on some things (berry bread beats hard tack by miles for travel food) but the power of combination can make a lot of foods ridiculously powerful, like salads made with fried food battered in peanut butter, instead of syrup. peanut butter takes a lot more effort for a ridiculous amount more saturation. Gratin is easily one of the best ways to get your dairy sat increased too. I think the advantage of sausage is meant to be when you cure it + add cheese to it, it's now a protein you can add to any meal that also has additional saturations, and lasts longer!
  21. the cauldron is for large processing of materials that you'd normally cook in the saucepan, you can't make meals in it, but stuff that goes in meals instead, like broths and syrup and candy. i think there are other mods that are compatible with this mod (afaik) that include metal cookpots that cook more servings at once
  22. i think the first two chopped veg have to be uncooked, but i might be wrong! if that doesn't work, try using something other than cattails
  23. i think the knife needs to be in a specific spot in the crafting grid to chop things, check the handbook and make sure it matches up if you're still struggling! if you're trying to cook, or part-bake them on their own, you need to use an oven instead. a clay oven or cauldron should cook them how you want.
  24. rice ale is a vanilla recipe that follows the same as all the other grain ales, here's what it says on the wiki about those, so hopefully it'll help you start! grain-based ales ferment at a ratio of 5:1. 5L water and 5 flour produces 1L of ale, with a full barrel of 50L water and 50 flour producing 10L ale. as far as making things into strong, fine, and vintage versions, all alcohol in this mod now takes time to cure into those and has to age in-game in your cellar. (or, out in the open if it wont spoil)
  25. i can't tell in the picture, but does your cauldron have any liquid inside it? that usually prevents cooking
