Any new ask needs to be thought of in terms of cost/benefit ratios.

I would also note that new suggestions also need to take the Standard game balance into account, since that's the game mode intended to be the default(multiple gameplay styles accounted for and settings tuned to satisfy the widest variety of players). Many suggestions that I see float through the forums aren't necessarily bad, as much as they are clearly balanced around individual preference.

Adding Dr Pepper to the game will be a revolutionary idea
Think about it
Fighting someone, then immediately decide to call a truce to taste the sweet one
Or you see a couple demons coming through a temporal rift? Give them a Dr Pepper, then you'll be best friends with them

Except that the Rot creatures wouldn't accept the Dr. Pepper....

Because they Wanna Fanta

That is, unless the Rust World incidentally used Dr Pepper's exact flavouring for cough medicine, and now the general population associate it with being sick.
(This just so happens to be the exact reason why Dr Pepper flopped in Australia) 😆

I've heard this is also why American drinks like root beer never really caught on overseas, though I also suspect part of it might be due to those unfamiliar with the beverage trying to drink it without chilling it first. It's a drink that's really better served cold, especially when it includes ice cream.

Of course, I've also heard that this is why mint isn't really a popular flavor for candy and other foods in America; many of us associate mint flavoring with toothpaste and mouthwash.

Unpopular Opinion: Bushmeat SHOULD be usable in meals (at least stews), but should in fact remain less nutritious than red meat, as the meat of predators is typically less nutritious and has a higher concentration of heavy metals and such that make it worse for your health, as well as that bushmeat in general tends to be a lot more parasite laden than the meats that count as redmeat for this game.

think that 1m³ blocks are a dead end in block games in the 2030's (it's almost 2026.. it'll be 2030 before we know it!)

my reasoning is that it makes having things like horses, horse carts, chariots, etc. much more stiff.

Sorry to bring up something like this months later, but i agree so much with this, This is pretty much my biggest gripe with valkyrien skies (minecraft)

Yes, i can make a pretty car, but god forbid i try actually using it, because going up my local hill takes an hour and seven attempts.

I cannot overstate how much i am longing for a voxel game with somewhat smooth terrain, comprised of something akin snowlayers to form smooth curves. Once that happens, i can finally live in peace with my (now useful) pretty car.

(again, im so sorry to "necropost" like this)

Having Keepinventory enabled is perfectly reasonable with how much grinding is required to progress in this game, as losing a set of armor and bags is devastating until lategame.

(additional reasoning below, contains spoilers for main story!)

Spoiler

It also fits with the whole "magic angel that can also turn back time and respawn" shtick Seraphs have

Have you found the Terrain Slabs mob, or its minecraft equivalent? https://mods.vintagestory.at/terrainslabs

It makes it so you can just walk up and down hills, no jumping necessary, and everything looks smoother. Anything that can roll over a half slab should be able to roll over a hill.

You could also combine it with one of the compatible worldgen mods https://mods.vintagestory.at/list/mod?sortby=lastReleased&sortdir=d&text=worldgen&side=&a=&mv=&c=m&t=. I've been loving World of Fortune (https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/35113) in particular, and can confirm it works with Terrain Slabs, but there are a lot of options, probably including some that have more focus on valleys, deserts, or general smoothness.

Yeah, after playing around with slabs and the chisel, I feel like the default block size could be like 1/8th current size (so if we're going by the current 1m³ metric, 0.5m³), with more 'multiblock' objects.

You can have tools like shovels and pickaxes dig in aoe while stuff like hammers and trowels place blocks in (configerable) aoe so placing and removing blocks isn't annoying, and I think it'll overall make things more enjoyable.

I thought "10cm³" as an ideal size..
My reasoning has more to do with wanting a unit small enough to allow for things like tides to be practical.

not sure if there's going to be the performance overhead on enough systems to do that though.

Performance would be my primary concern, since lots of complex chisel blocks can bog down a system. Though I'd also be concerned about players getting frustrated with building. Not everyone wants to go to the effort of chiseling, and not everyone is a great builder; if the landscape itself becomes chiseled then more basic builds are going to look out of place.

Anego should focus development on core features that will actually get the game out of early access (e.g. rivers, the story, temporal storms) before focusing on literally anything else.

I know it's subjective, to an extent, and that the game will never be "done," but they could still finish the base game (whatever they decide that is) and then iterate from there.

idk my thought was "the base unit is 10cm; but it's mostly multiblocks", the 10cm allows for elevation changes more gradual than either 1m or 0.5m increments.

basically the "implementable" change in VS would be "everything is slab now" as far as build/world grid is concerned. "Place on slabs" gets easier when they're not a special condition but the norm.

Hunger is annoying past copper age. They should do more with the calories system imho. Instad of giving you more health a diverse diet should slow down the hunger bar. That would give you real good reason to diversify your diet and hunger especially in the late game wouldn't be a chore anymore.

That would give me the push to get into milk and cheese finally.

1) Smithing is extremely annoying and there should be options to move many blocks at once in a specified direction, and the 1 block moving should only be used for fine tuning not as the default only option to move bits.

2) Villages and villagers that we are able to hire should be implemented post haste as a priority or the game mechanics like smithing and steel making should be optimized/changed so you can reliably and quickly make them in single player. I cannot begin to describe how much I despise steel making in this game.

3) It makes 0 sense that cooked red meat is such a weak food. Go eat a whole steak and tell me you've barely eaten and are still ravenous. And don't start with "gameplay reasons" when this game is autistic about being realistic. This is not realistic.

All these half measures to make the game easier.

What really irks me is there is no automatic mode. You can't click a button when you start the game and your seraph goes about harvesting and hunting and building and crafting and you just sit there and watch. Just think how fulfilling that would be.

[EDIT]

Oops. There is such a game mode, and you don't even have to buy the game. Just watch Let's Plays.

The hunger system being too annoying to deal with, even when performing simple tasks you have to eat the amount of a small family per day to stay topped off, even though a normal person can live for a long time without food. And when you are even slightly injured, it only gets worse.

Also, the "There's a mod for that.", crowd.

There are palisades already in the game, and somehow NPC buildings can have shapes in a way that is not possible for the player in a vanilla setting.

I should not need mods to get access to these things that are already in the game and being used, just not by us.

Have you ever had a really physical job? I used to eat 5000 calories a day. Farming, construction, carpentry, blacksmithing, lumberjacking, hiking through mountains all take a LOT of fuel. I've eaten 6lbs of meat in one sitting (Pampa Gaucho Brazillian rodizio-style steakhouse, highly recommend, lol)

A guy I used to work with ate 8000 - 9000 calories everyday (he was 6'7" 280lbs).

I'd have to say it's fairly realistic the amount of food we have to consume in the game for what we have to do to survive and thrive.

That's a fair angle, but looking at it from that point - foods like crocks shouldn't refill as much as they do either. One tiny bowl of stew is not really that different from a whole steak yet the difference here is stark.

a bowl can have 4 pieces of steak in one serving, so i think the steaks in VS are just a bit smaller than your regular massive brisket or ribeye.

You shouldn't be able to hide in a hole or your base for the duration of an entire temporal storm.

If I wanted the devs to arm-twist me into playing the game one particular way they considered the right way, I'd go play 7 Days to Die.
