Helst_navngivet Posted August 14 Report Posted August 14 (edited) I want to see what everyone prefers to eat in the dull months! For me, it's either some form of cheap vegetable soup, or hefty cabbage stew. (Hefty cabbage stew has an insane 1800+ satiety, by the way!) Soup is pretty cheap, and we have a huge amount of turnips and other vegetables, so it's great as a little "snack" when working at the base. But I'm curious as to what others eat during the winter, and the reason behind it! Edited August 14 by Helst_navngivet reason: expanded text a little
LadyWYT Posted August 14 Report Posted August 14 Generally some sort of meaty stew, or some sort of pie that isn't pure vegetable. I lean more heavily into carnivore than vegetarian, plus Blackguards burn through calories faster than the other classes. So eating more filling meals is more of a priority.
SnapJelly Posted August 14 Report Posted August 14 Nothing but wine! Winter is the time to get SLAMMED! XD Real answer though, I rarely don't have enough foodstuffs build up by winter start to just keep eating as I usually have, but sometimes ajustments have to be made according to how low the pantry gets of course, first winter I do usually run out of fruit preserves at some point but 2nd I'll have MOUNTAINS of jam and honey stored. 3
HalfAxd Posted August 14 Report Posted August 14 I end up burning lots of calories during winter because I build roads and misc cave diving. Last game I burned through all my meats and considerable stocks of veggies... started making bread too, but had never made porridge (of all things). I had huge amounts of grain... surprised how filling that was... For being on the go (not sitting around making bread, etc.) I'm kinda in the porridge mode for winter.
Dilan Rona Posted August 14 Report Posted August 14 Depends on what I got stored (cooked, or uncooked). End of winter (if pickings were slim), its whatever is still left...
Facethief Posted August 14 Report Posted August 14 I have a bunch of carrot pies and random meals stored up in my current save, first winter.
Kiler_ Posted August 15 Report Posted August 15 I managed to get a few pairs of pigs breeding, and with growing a bunch of flax, have a really good supply of meat now. While the pigs are gestating I'll switch crops to cabbage for the next harvest and process most of the boars and half the females to keep the population manageable. Then I'll make a bunch of meals from 12 meat and 12 cabbage and move them to sealed crocks in the basement. That will get me through winter and into spring before doing it over again. I'll also mix in any berries/fruit to make jams that have a very looooong shelf life. The first winter is always the worst. That's usually whatever I can find, mostly mushrooms and fish, and sometimes bushmeat if I'm not using it for bait.
Michael Gates Posted August 15 Report Posted August 15 Bears. Last time I went through an entire winter I was killing a bear every other day or so, and you can't just leave it to rot.

Zaph42nd Posted Tuesday at 01:39 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 01:39 PM Meat stew and wine, wine is good for fruits, meat stews give you protein, grains are easy with charred bread but been meaning to get more into making pies. Fishing is also decently viable during the winter in a pinch, although typically not a first-resort unless you've built on a decently large lake (or near an ocean)
Sparticus247 Posted Tuesday at 11:34 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 11:34 PM Fish and onion pot pie, and a 3-liter jug of honey does wonders for my digestion.
Maelstrom Posted Wednesday at 03:52 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:52 PM meat/veggie/fruit stew. Then some bread or veggie pie to top of the grains. I also keep a barrel or two of honey (also used to make sulfur/honey poultices).
