  1. This is cool! With such feature i would be ready to try wilderness survival someday.
  2. Map and navigation could be implemented as all other great things in this game already have been - being as much realistic as it is possible, yet keeping fun. Agree that having waypoints is easy (which isn't bad, but let's admit it is too easy to find anything once you mark it -especially pinned waypoints) and i love idea, that something has to be done to it, so players should be forced to communicate more on multiplayer server. I personally agree on point, that map could be less detailed for more surprises, but i think many of players, who wan't build thus being able to find specific materials using map, could disagree. But then again, if map (or discovered areas and things) could be shared between players, then that would be another good reason for players to cooperate. Also, if the compass, you mentioned in other suggestion could be changed according to thing you are looking for, then maybe that would be fine as well. Sharing map (or marked points) would be nice, as that would be similar to people comunicating IRL and sharing information and knowledge about area around. Many ideas come to mind when thinking about it, but, this will always come to situation where more active players will have advantages. And newbies or those who only have 1-2 hours to play game, won't be able to keep up with more active players. So such changes should be made very carefully, because game (as i see it) already is a niche product because of how time consuming it is. And i tell that from experience. Although i am not playing much, i still could be called gamer compared to other my friends. And even then i sometimes struggle to progress in game as much as i would like, as time i can spend in game, must be used for food and material making instead of trips i would more like to make.
  3. I'm playing on another server usually so maybe my experience would be different. But while reading this suggestion, i also had some ideas regarding maps and exploring. Im not too much into compass thing. At first my reaction was similar to Selzyr's, but then i though more about how game could become more challenging, yet not too harsh on new players, whom sometimes are struggling already atm without tutorial in this game. Also on servers usually players are suggested not to build so close to each other not to ruin other players experience or not to get all recources around their bases. So it thought.. How would we still suggest players to play on their own, but keep them closer, forcing to cooperate more? I think it would be cool to have some type of library or totem, where players could "deposit" some knowledge about areas they have explored and marked or TL's activated. Or maybe you would simply want to share your base coords. As players come and go, after while it gets too hard to understand which area/cave is explored...and what area could and should still be explored. For example: I have marked lots of stuff in my map i don't need anymore, but new players would still want to get - like public copper vein for example. So i could mark things on map with special marker, that way adding it to knowledge, i would later want to share with the "world" (By choice). When i deposit that info into library or totem, only those special marked things would show up in map. Although this suggestion might not seem helping at map being owerpowered, i think that problem is not that map makes game easy. My idea it that such "library" could be found or built/placed by admin. It would force players to stick to that one place more if they want to keep up with map exploring. Also that would make more sence to cooperate on trips and adventures. Because now my experience that many players tend to play alone and attempts to make cities usually fail after while, because they don't have the "center" and no need to be together..unless they might lose some valuable information while being alone or some good builders just come together just to build. Also it is not fun to be in area, you thought is undiscovered, yet all caves are already empty of any ores. In short. I think problem is not that game is easy because of map. In my opinion multiplayer mode has lack of possibility to share information which map could give to all players. Some small things like trading and selling/buying stuff could alse be made using map, that way anyone could place their store in map or at some special advertisment board. So new player would already know where to head if food is their main concern at start. Or maybe some good player would made hotel for newbies... Ideas come as i am typing, so i better stop.
  4. For me scary is ambience not monsters or jumpscares. Vintage story is great at making tension in caves using music and sounds. Turn music off and caves aren't so scary anymore. Similar experience i had in S.T.A.L.K.E.R game, which i loved too. That ambience is amazing. Best things to be afraid are the one's game puts in your head. One of them is that you will have to come here again to get your stuff back if something goes wrong. I wouldn't judge ruins by the ones on surface only. Once found some ruins underground it's a whole different experience, as you start collecting stuff, get inventory full and start hearing some drifters already spawning in cave, you came from..so you start thinking that going back won't be so easy...and you even have some more stuff to lose now. That is scary experience for me in Vintage Story. An i have been in such situations many times in this game, yet it always keep me worried and i am so happy once i get out alive. Just to ilustrate i would add video from GGbeyond, where he enters cave at 8:55 or 19:40. SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't met bell yet! How music and atmosphere changes! How he is "happy" to meet the bell later (25:14)! Love caves in this game!
  5. Actually there is one way you could try to find iron more easily, but that method needs lantern, as you will be in water. Find deep waters and find deeper areas in it. Once found, mark that place and dig straight down while holding space so you are swimming just in case below is cave. That is good way to eventually find good veins of materials or even fall straight into new caves. Easy swimming back will be possible unless you fall in deep cave whiich then means you will have to pillar up somehow back to water falling above. I know it might seem cheaty for some players, but while there isn't any breathing restrictions in game, this can be used, Having experience with often finding iron very deep or finding some good stuff below water or pounds, it seems this is how it could maybe even be planned to do. At least for me, that's the only way i have found iron and i don't feel like cheating, as it is still dangerous if you are not carefull.
  6. Wanted to spam a little too here... I could agree and disagree at the same time. Many people leave during storms at server i am playing at. Don't know why. Whether it's just because they think it is too stressfull or they already have chest full of gears, so they just don't want to deal with it anymore. For me it is second situation ... At some point i simply didn't need anything i would get from storm anymore. I would love to fight during storms, but only if enemies were already spawned or killing them would give me some additional parts for something unique that could be added to game later for crafting. Otherwise it is just mad running around and wasting armor because of unpredictable spawn hits near you. So for now i usually use drifter pit just to spare armor. So i don't think making just storms harder would make game more fun. As for me I would need more purpose to keep fighting during storms. Another thing i would wan't is some possibility to craft some device like translocator, that is temporal gear fueled and keeps some area around it free from spawning drifters (They could still come in that area from all sides but wouldn't be able to spawn there). That way it could become more like tower defence experience, but the one you could control more with good strategy and fighting skills (So drifters won't spawn just on your head). Other players, if they wish could make more such devices around base that way making area so big, they could be safe during storms if they wish so. Sure harder creatures are welcome to taste my sword too later in game but i think that should be by choice and then i would love to see better loot from them. Maybe the difficulty could increase once you make some another special device, that way players like you you could say to game..."Come on! Bring it on!" "Give me some baddass experience". While other casual players would still be able to get through storm rather easy. Or maybe there could be some special areas with bad stability where you could go during storms to fight harder mobs and even have to use gears to get stability back during storm. There are many ideas. Game is still in developement and i think developers have many ideas themselves too. But everything has to be implemented step by step, that way keeping game balanced and fun for all. Other thing is the technical part - everything has to be coded which needs time and has to be done so game would't become unplayeble for players having low spec computers.
  7. Don't know how it's planned for developers, but i would love it to stay as it is to keep exploring waters without worries as it expands the way you can explore and get recources. Also this game already has many things to worry about. Usually there are good veins of materials under water when you dig straight down in some deeper places you notice in water. Actually that is the only way i have found iron while digging almost to lowest level possibe.
  8. Flint arrows are useless. Better make many spears. Pillar near sheep on 2 blocks of ground and then attack them using SHIFT key and clicking. They will try to get you but they wont be able to. Other way is to simply stand near water or run straight to it after hitting sheep or encountering wolf. Going/swimming backwards while in water you will still be faster than them yet you will be able still to attack them using spear meelee function. About copper. You can still get it by panning sand/gravel too. Just make safe dirt building with torches above some water source you could stand in. In early game during nights you are in danger, so there isn't anything much to do in the night anyway. Sleeping isn't solution, as then you waste time and only make you hungry again. P.S. BTW sheep probably attacked you just because it fell from mountain or falling dirt. That way it feels like it is being attacked and then attacks first threat it can see.
  9. Game isn't that hard once you know basics. I would say it lacks tutorial. Have tried to get my wife or kids into this game and they don't want to play, because many things aren't obvious for them. Many mistakes at start could lead to you death. And because getting gear (to set your spawn) at start is hard, loosing all progress isn't fun. Also i am usually playing in multiplayer server. Seeing new players joined i feel bad for them sometimes and try to help. And it seems strange that i have to explain them simple things like fire making or building first dirt base. I like how another game - Cryofall - has done explaining basics. You start and have some simple achievments to do till you are ready to play without guidance. Like - make fireplace, torch, stone tools. That way it forces you to read and do the right things at first. Maybe just additional gamemode called tutorial made in creative world. Once you know these things game becomes more enjoyable, so i don't think that simple tutorial would be spoiler for the game itself.
  10. Drifters won't spawn on you if you light you base enough with torches. You can biuild first dirt base above some water source and pan sand/gravel at night, getting your first copper nuggets, because sleeping still takes away hunger that way not efficient way to start a game. Surface drifters are not most lethal threat you could face in this game. Wait till you meet wolfes and learn that water is your friend. Like others said, you can change settings for world you create making mobs passive. I think it is fine, while you learn game, but IMO if you take that part off from the game, there wouldn't be much left from survival later once you get your first copper tools.
  11. As much i love this game, i am a bit worried about the point you make too. My kids love minecraft and i bought them this game too. They are only ready to play this game in Creative or at least with full equipment already gifted to them. But even then they lost intrest too quickly. I won't even speak about falling in caves which is like magnet for them. Game is too harsh on new players and doesn't give any relief later unless you are ready to grind much for good armor, which slows you down and makes healing worse. As i said i love this game at it's current state myself and wish only best for it's Devs. But at the same moment i am worried this this game will really stay niche product atm because of it being not forgiving to new player mistakes. If devs are ok with sales and game being such, i don't have any problems with that myself too. But as i see this game more suitable for multiplayer servers and cooperation to be more fun, i'd like to see more players being attracted to it than it is right now. Time will show.. About the topic - I have Minecraft Win10 version. Haven't played Java version, but i miss mods for it as i see Vanilla version too easy and boring for me. But it is way relaxing to play at the same moment, compared to VS. Thus i don't think poeple will run to other games just because of Microsoft account. But if idea of alternative game came to their mind, they could buy and try Vintage story, which is would still be fine for this game to grow.
  12. I get the idea, but i don't see reasoning for this suggestion. I have played Minecraft and also Vintage story now for some time... I wouldn't say Minecraft is too different in terms of cave systems (especially with new Minecraft cave update) although there are some differences in the way caves are generated. Also keep in mind this game is still in progress - so many things may come later here. But exploring caves in Vintage story are more dangerous because of possibility to fall straight down many times and temporal instability. Ambient music in caves add great feeling of danger too. Falling in cave wouldn't be so bad in Minecraft, as you can simply make at least pixaxe from stone and dig yourself out. In Vintage story though you can fall into pit without easy access back to surface. Also dangers in Minecraft are more predictable as in Vintage story drifters can spawn at dark place in any given moment, even though it seemed tottaly safe place before - so you have to check your back all the time. That saying i think that it's not the cave generation wich scares away Minecraft players from this game. It's creepy atmosphere and the fact, that without bandages, ladders, toches, good pixaxe and armor your fun journey into cave, can quickly turn into nightmare - no matter how caves will be generated. So journeys to cave are something you have really prepare yourself before. Sure it would be nice to see some new content related to caves, but i think it will be sooner or later. I have explored hundreds of caves in VS and still when i enter next one i don't know how it will end for me, although cave seems similar to others. All mentioned is great for me, but also can be too tiring for some players. I know it from the fact cause i also can't make any friend to love this game the way i do.
  13. Good luck on whole youtube thing, I will subscribe just to help. As you mention in your first video, this game isn't for all, as it's challenging and grindy at first, which scares away many potential players. But i hope youtubers like you and also developers making game more forgiving to new players, will help this game to become more popular. Keep up and be patient on gaining subs!
  14. Haven't tried this mod, but i love to see things you offer for this game. New threats maybe wouldn't be suitable for single player, but such things i would sure wan't to see on multiplayer server, thus making players to cooperate more.
  15. This is great game! Just be strong and don't get upset with first steps till you get to first cattails, dirt base and clay, thus having storage and much reliable food source. Then more pleasant game experience starts!
  16. While there is no breathing restrictions in water in this game, you can use digging straight down in some water (usually suspicious pits underwater or in puddles). Mark place befoe digging down so you could see all places you have explored. Also it would help you get up if you find any cave and start exploring it after You will get down while using space button to keep you swimming in water and eventually get into some iron (or other metal) vein or straight into some cave too if lucky.. And those veins are usually big! That way you won't need so much sticks, Once you get to some vein, dig to side and there will be no water anymore so you will be ready to collect stuff. Unless you have claustrophobia or you are scared of the water, it's much safer because no drifter can get you in water. But be sure to hide you torch stack into bags, not main inventory - one mouse scroll can kill whole stack. Sure it's a little bit cheaty, but you have to be carefull anyway. You can dig under lava (if hear one around) and some drifters can spawn once vein has been cleared thus making dark areas for them to spawn. Also if you find some deep cave there could be already some stronger drifters and you can fall straight into deeper cave. But since water will make waterfall in that place, holding space button will let you slowly get down using falling water. And after that pile up blocks near that waterfall and you will be able to swim back up. Don't know how developers feel about this, but If your consceince is O.K. with this using method thus cheating a little with game's difficulty, it makes finding ores and exploring caves less stressful.
  17. As mentioned above having fixed clothes using linen is the key. Other than that, its better to put long distance travels to other seasons, meanwhile focus on other things and explore nearby caves and maybe find translocator which would bring you more south - that way you will have some area for "vacations" . I am playing on multiplayer server where time goes on if other players are online and i am not, so i haven't experienced long winters myself (Logging in after some time has already spring coming). That helps with cold, but makes things worse with food spoiling. But if i would play single player i would simply more focus on caves during winters and base work, i think.
  18. Oh. Yea. Was strange i had that so deep. Probably was digging near to other side of planet.
  19. I was digging under some pond and at certain level saw water bubbles (particles) becoming green. Havent found any topic on this as well as some explanation for that. Don't have footage for that myself, but you can see this thing in this video at 7:04:55. (Warning: Some uncensored russian words in video) https://youtu.be/8wAfDZ2GHrY?t=25494 Anyone have seen this and have some explanation for that?
  20. Birch sap could also be an option. But that would be more necessary if thirst is added into game.
  21. I you hear/see Racoons its a sign bees might be near as they love they honey. Not really much to say about finding bees. You need to find trees - birch or maple more possible, than pine or oak. Increase your sound levels and simply listen for them.
  22. You should check official discord of the game. One of the latest posts i devlog section actually shows something like this.
  23. Anyone has video of these mobs? I know how they look, but would be cool to see how some content creator dealt with them. I follow VS content on youtube as much as i can, but have not seen any video of someone fighting them. Havent met them myself yet.
  24. Can't try that myself right now, but using CRTL+scroll you can move to bags in quicbar and they show up in hands. Nevert tried to put them down though.
  25. You just have to move items from lower inventory slots (as many as the bag has) and then remove bag/sack before removing it. Then bag/sack will be empty and you will be able to pick it up in you inventory and not lose any item.
